I never was nervous like that…

Dammit. Never nervous like I am right now. School starts tomorrow! I don’t know if I’ll be able to post entries from school, because I won’t have a computer at home, only at school. If you didn’t know, I’m studying in Multimedia.

Well… Enjoy this new season and say goodbye to that short summer that is flying away with the nice weather.

Wish me good luck… did I say I was nervous?

I am enjoying digital photography

I must say that I can’t figure out how I could have lived all those years without a digital camera. I know it’s the third post talking about it, but this one won’t be similar as the other ones.

I now have the pleasure to bring my camera everywhere I go, taking pictures of wonderful landscapes or cute friends. It’s so simple to do! I know traditionnal camera are easy to use too. But I’m also enjoying the fact that the beautiful picture appears in the LCD screen at the back of the camera.

I know most of you will say: “Digital cameras where used in 2000! We’re in 2004!”. I know, I know. I don’t know why I wrote that entry . When you’ll read it, I’ll may be at a base-ball game, or sleeping (dreaming about my week off).

Only one week (6 little days) before school… I am sort of excited and frightened of that new type of school (and that new type education) …

I got my ticket for…

Metallica!!! Yes, Metallica! The famous rock band is coming to Quebec City on the 14th of October. Two of my friends got to the Quebec Colisé Pepsi to buy the tickets this morning at 5 am. I’m pretty eager to see the band in action, playing those awesome songs, such as “Master of Puppets”, “Battery” and “Whiskey in the Jar”. I think those three are my favorites ones. Anyway, I’ll have to summarize the show on October 15th :)

To make this entry a little longer, I’ll tell you that I bought some stuff yesterday, such as a Canon PowerShot A75 digital camera. It’s actually what I wanted, a not-too-high-cost camera that would take beautiful pictures, with a certain quality… I hope it will stay a good buy. I also bought the Vans Warped Tour 2004 CD (2 CDs set).

ifiz.net

Regular visitors recognize this URL. It was my first ‘’real'’ one for my website. But in February of this current year, the domain was made down by my host, which has closed its doors.

Some 6 months passed, with ifiz hosted by Chris at Pixelarmy. But yesterday, I received an email from one of my friend, who had reffered me my previous host, telling me that my host would like to come back on business; and so would be my domain!

I was kind of excited when I read the email. I always loved that URL, because it’s shorter and easier to remember than a subdomain host (in that case you have to remember the domain, plus the subdomain).

So I don’t say I’m gonna change my URL, since it’s not 100% sure that my former host will come back on the web. Although I’d be very, very happy!

Final note: It’s the weekend, throw your body outside of your house!

The day I tried Movable Type

It’s used by Dan , Dave and Cameron. It must be good. Movable Type is one of the most popular blog publishing tool on the web. So I tried to download the ‘’famous'’ Movable Type. I went to the Movable Type website (link) and looked for a link that would get me to a file ‘’MT.zip'’ or something like that. There wasn’t. There was a link named ‘’Get Movable Type'’, which took me to a complex page with diagrams and text in it explaining the license types, restrictions, etc. I clicked ‘’Free Download'’ in the ‘’Limited Free Edition'’ tab. That’s when all the problems began.

‘’An error occured: No license selected‘’. I emailed the MT support team for informations. I had to set cookies on. I had to scroll down all my list of ‘’Blocked cookies'’ list to find the site ‘’secure.sixapart.com'’. After I had to login to TypeKey to download the file. They said that I can use my TypePad account name to login. I tried but it didn’t work. I tried the ‘’Forgot your password?'’ function, it didn’t work. I finally created a new TypeKey account with my hotmail address.

Now, I could download MT-3.01D.zip. The problem: there was no Total Size given when I downloaded the file in FireFox, nor in Internet Explorer. I have a very slow connection, so it’s always interesting for me to know the size of the file I’m downloading to estimate the time it will take. But that time, I couldn’t estimate if there was going to take 10 minutes, or 2 hours…

I emailed the support team again, to learn that the file size was 1.3MB, which is not a big deal for me, about 15-20 minutes. So when the download was finished — well, I guessed it was finished because I didn’t have any progressbar or a percentage to indicate the download progress, but the file was in my downloads directory — so when the download was done, I thought MT would be as easy to install as Cutenews is. I was wrong.

I never succeed in installing Movable Type. Well… I’m not even sure if I have all the things it’s requiring. I don’t know if I can use Perl on my site, I prefer PHP. I don’t know how databases (SQL) are working. But when I scrolled down the installation and configuration instructions, I was just scared!

In conclusion, I know that Movable Type is great. I know it contains more functions than Cutenews. I know it’s using standards, I know you can use SmartyPants plugin with it!!! But, what I like in Cutenews is the fact that it is flexible, nothing less. Flexibility is cool. Maybe MT is flexible too, I never tried it. But Cutenews is all I want. If I’m wrong about any point in this entry, please let me know, politely please.
