exomel v2 11

After a little bit more than one month of existence, exomel got redesigned. I got inspired by one of Adam Polselli’s color scheme, Chic Simplicity. It’s using Century Gothic font but if you don’t have it on your computer, it will use Verdana font.

The CSS code is very more clean than the previous one. But I still have to fix some bugs, like the sidebar that doesn’t continue to scroll when the main content is shorter than it.

But there’s one good news: the old exomel style is still available for nostalgic people! Just use the sympathic style switcher at your right. So if you don’t like the current design, shut up and click the green button ;-)

I know this new design’s “layout” looks like the old one… but I think this one is very, very nicer. Don’t you? Anyway, tell me what do you think about it…

P.S. - Unlike I did for exomel v1, I may not take your suggestion. I like this design and I don’t think it needs a lot changes. Thanks :-)

P.S. - And no, I didn’t, and probably won’t, change the favicon.

Upcoming redesign

I found some great color schemes at returnofdesign and I’m planning to redesign the site — not only to repaint it. Yeah, I’m already fed up with the current layout. It looks too much like websites I won’t mention the names here.

The thing is, I have to stay with a rhetorical layout. Like, melon colour hues. My friend Joël will be happy because the colors probably won’t be red and green again.

I want to be proud of it.

Semantic Web 1

In my “Multimedia Production” class, I have to do a research (and an Acrobat presentation) about the topic: “What is the semantic web?”. I got a lot of interesting websites talking about it only by searching on Google. It talked about XML, RDF, SVG, etc…

But I’m now asking you, what do you think of the semantic web?

Remi #24 3

Few days ago, I was the 5th Remi at Google search. Now, with all that rel=”nofollow” thing, I’m now 24th. It’s the proof that it’s a useful thing to beat comment spammers. It’s also the proof that most a lot of the links to this website are now nofollowed by Google.

Pathetic…

Update: It seems that I’m back at #5.

2005 Bloggies Finalists

Congratulations to all of the 2005 Bloggies Awards finalists ! Some of my reactions:

  • WordPress is not finalist for “Best Web Application for Weblogs”?!?!
  • I’m not finalist for “Best Canadian Weblog”? I didn’t expect to get there though…
  • Finalists for “Weblog of the Year” were not the ones I expected to be there.
  • There are a lot of blogs there that I never heard of… especially canadian ones.

Anyway, good luck to all of the finalists!

The buzz around “nofollow”

Well, it seems that everyone is giving his opinion about the rel=”nollow” thing. Everyone is saying the same thing, which I won’t do here. Well, I’ll do indirectly the same thing. If you want to know more about the “nofollow saga”, google it and you might find what popular bloggers think of it. You will be amazed by seeing the number of people that wrote the same thing. Simple, isn’t it?

P.S. - I know it looks like I don’t have my own opinion about it. But I just think that all bloggers are having almost the same opinion about it…

Standards at school 2

I’ll go back to school on Monday the 17th, and I’m eager to know which things we’ll study. Our Programming Language teacher told us that since the program was started, in 1999 I think, they thaught to her student non valid HTML with Javascript not using any DOM valid references. We began to learn XHTML Transitional with Javascript based on the getElementById() function.

Our Media Management teacher told us that during all those years, he thaught Table based layout design to his students. But he told us that things will change this year. With the rise of web standards, all the teachers realised that their student should be up-to-date with the latest technology. So we — and maybe I — should learn CSS design.

I’m quite eager to know if those two teachers won’t be afraid to break the routine they had for 6 years of non-standard productions. Because in the first half of the year, they stayed with their old methods, especially with the tables based layout design. I don’t want to use tables anymore!

Winter 2005 Semester Schedule 1

I just received my schedule for the Winter 2005 semester at the Cégep de Ste-Foy. I’m pretty satisfied with it, but now I just have to compare with my friends’ one to know if whether or not I’ll be alone in all of my courses.

Take a look at it. It’s in french but the words can be easily translated in your own favorite language. I bet it’s english.

Creative Commons Licensed 2

Exomel is now licensed under the by-nc-nd license of Creative Commons, which means that you are free to copy, distribute, display, and perform the work found on this website. Read the full license to learn all the rights and terms.

I’m now using a lot of free (and mostly all are open-source) softwares like Filezilla, Notepad2, FireFox, Thunderbird, XnView and WordPress and I had to release my work under this license to thank and support them.

Starting now, this weblog will be more focused on the “free web” concept. Don’t be surprised if you read the words “GNU”, “GPL” or “open-source” more often.

Let’s make the web free. What do you think of that?
