Semantic Web (Part 2)
So, if you didn’t know it, I’m doing a research (followed by a nifty presentation using Acrobat 6.0) on the Semantic Web. Here’s what I learnt so far:
- Every information on the web is labelled.
- Every label is readable by user agents or human beings.
- The semantic web is like a global database where all the information is structured.
But I got a few questions left:
- What’s a namespace?
- Is there a “huge” difference between URL and URI?
So if you got an answer to one of those questions, feel free to write it in the comments.

There are 10 comments yet. Don't be shy.
A URL is a URI, but a URI isn’t only a URL - a URN can also be a URI.
Thanks for clearing that up, Joe….
By the way, it would be ” learned” not “learnt” ;]
Oh dammit… I was sure it was “learnt”… That’s what they taught me in irregular verbs English course.
I guess it could be, but “I’ve learned” sounds a lot better than “I Learnt” . Unless you’re going for the whole southern hickish sound ;]
Learn about that strange “t” here.
This discussion begins to be really semantic…
That’s exactly what I wanted :P No, seriously, let’s get back to the topic.
I wanted to write a huge post about the difference of URI and URL, but I think Wikipedia summed me up pretty well:
As for the namespace, I can’t help you much, as I never dived into them. Maybe this article will be of more help than me.
Well, thank you very much for your help Datrio :-)
