WordPress 1.5 RFR

Is this a review? Nope. It’s a RFR. I ask you, why should I upgrade to WordPress 1.5? I’m currently using 1.5-beta1 (or 1.3 if you prefer). But I modified the template files a lot, as well as the functions files. I know I could backup all those files and re-modify them after, but it’d take some time.

So, why should I take some time to upgrade to Strayhorn?

Oh, forgot to mention that I have absolutely no problems with my current WP version.

Main reason: compatability.

From the stand point of a plugin maker, I’m not going to suppport beta builds now that there is a release. Take that point further, and getting any help with issues would be troublesome for people trying to help you.

Other than that, there are probably some bug fixes and minor functionality changes that have been fixed - you’d have to figure out what they are. Those may/may not make it worth it.

So, if you’re not worried about either of those, then there isn’t much reason to upgrade.

I would, however, suggest that if you do “hacks” in the future, that you do them in a plugin and in your theme folder. This way any upgrading to WP can be accomplished without need to “re-hack” anything.

Well, after reading those lines there.

For example, you could create a page called “About” and it would be automatically added to your sidebar and the link would be example.com/about/ and then you could create a sub-page of that called “My Dog” which would live at /about/my-dog/.

I thought it would be great to manage sections like my portfolio, and about, instead of using a home-made technique. I especially like the 20 levels depth capacity.

So that’s it. I’m going to upgrade to WordPress 1.5 this week-end!
