Translating on WikiPedia

One of my friends got me into “translating english WikiPedia articles in french”. That’s awesome! Just take the english text, translating it, linking the page to its other language versions. And that’s it. I’ve translated those so far (those are in french) :

Update: Did I say that Wikipedia is a great community? Two hours after I created the WordPress article, someone corrected all the grammar mistakes in it… If someone could do this in my weblog posts…

Ifiz archives 1

Yes! After no one requested it (maybe Martin or Joël were hoping I’d do it), I imported the old ifiz archives. For those who don’t know it yet, ifiz was my previous weblog where I was writing about mostly nothing.

I used WordPress’ RSS Import and it worked perfectly… this time.

I couldn’t re-link all the images so I deleted all the <img> tags. Also, a lot of “internal” links won’t work. And there are no comments. But eh, it’s interesting to see what I was writing in the past year, isn’t it? It’s very interesting to see that I didn’t improve my english writing skills at all. But at last,

Enjoy!

Learning things with WikiPedia 5

It’s amazing how many things you can learn in Wikipedia. What I’ve learned today, so far.

  • On my 5th birthday (on March 18 1992), Microsoft released Windows 3.1.
  • Khaled Mardam-Bey birthday is one day after mine!
  • My brother is born 100 years exactly after the death of Alexander Mackenzie, the second Prime Minister of Canada.

Wow. Have you ever learned things like that on WikiPedia?

Semantic Web (Page 1) 2

Here’s the first page of my presentation (slideshow) about the semantic web. Enjoy!

Semantic Web

Oh! It’s in french, yeah. Finally, some “québecois” content on this site, dammit! :-)

Directories nesting tool

I need a tool that would help me to nest some sub-directories. Examples:

  • http://exomel.com/about/author/studies/

Because I’m currently using a home-made technique that is not very usable. I have to modify three different files each time I create a new “fake” sub-directory. It would be nice to have a database value that would contain all the pages. I need a tool that would manage them easily.

Any suggesitons?

P.S. - And don’t tell me WordPress 1.5 does that, I know it.

Plugged links section 1

There’s a new section in the site! The Plugged links. Instead of going to my del.icio.us page, you can go there to view all my recent bookmarked links. I really like this section because I don’t want to post a blog entry everytime I found something interesting on the web. Like this entry…

And by the way, if you still don’t know what is del.icio.us, I recommend you to check it out and create an account.

I gave up 5

… when upgrading to WordPress 1.5. They say it’s cool. They say it’s better. But it’s damn hard to install from 1.2, when you have a lot of custom code you don’t want to lose. If I didn’t want to all that trouble, I should have convert my “hacks” to plugins. Now they could be still usable.

The trouble? All that new “themes” system. I know it’s better that way. But porting a “template” into a “theme” isn’t that easy as they say there.

I gave up. 1.3-beta1 for life.

PersoPC Relaunch

YAY! Joël is finally done with the re-coding of PersoPC, our favorite desktop customization lab. Yes, this is not only a webboard anymore, it’s also a lab. If you speak french, go there to learn about the fantastic hobby that desktop customization is. A hobby which I love. And if you don’t speak french, well just go there to take a look at the beautiful theme! Oh, and this is not phpBB anymore too, it’s PunBB

WordPress 1.5 RFR 2

Is this a review? Nope. It’s a RFR. I ask you, why should I upgrade to WordPress 1.5? I’m currently using 1.5-beta1 (or 1.3 if you prefer). But I modified the template files a lot, as well as the functions files. I know I could backup all those files and re-modify them after, but it’d take some time.

So, why should I take some time to upgrade to Strayhorn?

Oh, forgot to mention that I have absolutely no problems with my current WP version.
