Century Gothic or Lucida Grande 4

It seems that the font “Century Gothic” isn’t installed on Mac OS, by default. It is on Windows. When I created the Lick™ stylesheet (in Windows), I’ve put “Verdana” in second position, to replace Century Gothic if it wasn’t found on the user’s hard drive.

But today, I thought:”What if I’d use a font that is commonly found on Mac OS, but not on PC’s?”

Introducing “Lucida Grande“, for Mac users! And if you’re on PC (especially on Windows), well… Introducing nothing new!

And what for users that are on Linux? Does it supports “Century Gothic” and/or “Lucida Grande”? If not, what font would you want to see here?

Wicked and Worn look 5

Following some techniques by Cameron Moll, I’ve just made some changes to the current design. I know the “wicked and worn style” is quite outdated and has been used by everybody, but I just love it. Recently, I had to work on a project at school and I decided to use that style. And I fell in love with it. So I decided to apply it to my personal website.

It didn’t take a lot of time. Altering some images with the good brushes, and modifying the CSS file a bit. And there you go!

Do you like it? Is it too outdated? Or is it still cool?

The “Doors Project”

saloonHere’s what we’re doing at school for our first project of the semester. The “Doors Project”, which I friendly renamed the “Saloon Project”. The final result is quite simple: Four doors, associated with four different “places”. Places are like little “games”; there’s a game where you have to find the good running bug on 50 ones, with your mouse. Anyway, the three others ones are in the same kind of games… Here’s what I’ve been doing so far. Oh, and the image is from saloon.pl.

XIII 8

It’s very rare to see a video game review in weblogs these days, especially on mine; because I’m not a gamer. But my young brother revceived an XBox for XMas (see the link?) and he bought the game XIII recently. The game is based on the popular comic book serie which goes by the same name.

The game is really, really great. It reminds me of the Goldeneye game on Nintendo 64. The single mode is very complete and the multi-player mode (splitscreen) is very interesting, with 6 or 7 play modes.

But where the game is better than other FPS games, is in the single mode; and especially, the story. The story captivated me like no other ones did in a video game. You are Steve Roland, the number XIII in the XX Clan. You can’t remember anything else. You’ll have to find who are the other numbers in the conspiration. And I can’t even tell you how the game ends, simply because I didn’t get the to end yet. Really good game, go buy it or rent it immediately.

OK. Now I’m off to prepare myself for tonight’s Super Bowl XXXIX. Lot of X’es in this post, right?

Google domain names 3

Did you ever wonder how many domain names Google was owning? This list shows them all. Here are some wise ones:

And some humoristic ones:

For a domain name at 9,85$/year, Google has the funds to buy a lot of useful — and useless — ones.

Semantic Web (Part 2) 10

So, if you didn’t know it, I’m doing a research (followed by a nifty presentation using Acrobat 6.0) on the Semantic Web. Here’s what I learnt so far:

  • Every information on the web is labelled.
  • Every label is readable by user agents or human beings.
  • The semantic web is like a global database where all the information is structured.

But I got a few questions left:

  • What’s a namespace?
  • Is there a “huge” difference between URL and URI?

So if you got an answer to one of those questions, feel free to write it in the comments.
